SUMMARY:ISCA Chair Chat: Strategies for Board Chairs to Help Prevent COVID Related Burnout in Heads of School
DESCRIPTION:While stress\, even in the most harmonious of environments\, can be an expected part of a Head of School’s position\, nothing could have prepared them\, or you\, for the overwhelming demands and challenges that have been faced in this past year. \nAs board chairs\, you have expressed concern for your Heads during this time and often struggle to find ways to provide the right kind of support. There are strategies\, however\, that can help you \, help them\, as they strive to safely guide their schools through these most trying times. \nThis workshop is designed to do just that: \nIdentify signs that will help gauge the stress level of the Head. \nDiscover strategies to aid the Head in their stress management. \nHave the language\, responses and questions to understand\, validate and support the challenges the Head is facing. \nPresented by Suzi Conklin Nance\, best selling author\, and founder of Newport Center for Hypnotherapy \n*Note that all event times are ET \nRegister

SUMMARY:ISCA Webinar: COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout - Policy and Risk Management Recommendations for Independent School Boards
DESCRIPTION:Vaccines against the coronavirus will soon be available to K-12 educators and staff (if not already)\, so it is time to start planning for the rollout at your school. As school governance leaders\, it is important for you to understand which approaches will promote campus health and safety\, and when and how schools need to accommodate resistance from community members to receiving their shot in the arm. Susan Schorr\, Vice-Chair of McLane Middleton’s Education Law Practice Group\, will guide a discussion analyzing the pros and cons of mandating vaccines versus strongly recommending inoculation; accommodating legitimate exemptions to vaccinations; describing where things stand with students and vaccination; and providing recommendations for vaccine and pandemic protocols and policies. \nPresented by Susan Schorr\, Vice-Chair Education Practice Law Group\, McLane Middleton \n*Note that published event times are ET. \nRegister

SUMMARY:ISCA Webinar: Memorializing the Work of the Board - Proactive Strategies for Creating and Maintaining Board Documents
DESCRIPTION:The memorialization and documentation of the work of the Board is unfortunately an area that is often left to chance. Bylaws\, Board minutes\, committee reports and the other documents created as part of the board’s work are all necessary materials that boards are obligated to maintain and can support the school in times of crises. Many of these documents are necessary to establish a defense in the case of a legal charge. We have invited Caryn Pass to discuss board documents and documentation and the strategies for creating and maintaining them in a legally compliant and strategic manner. \nPresented by Caryn Pass\, Chair\, Education Practice\, Venable LLP \n* Note:  published webinar times are ET \nRegister

SUMMARY:ISCA Chair Chat: Customized Tuition Models - Are They Right for Your School?
DESCRIPTION:In the independent school community\, there has been a lot of interest in removing ‘financial aid’ stigmas\, diversifying the socioeconomic profile of students to avoid the ‘barbell effect\,’ and creating more equity among students and families.  Alternative tuition models that do away with traditional financial aid are appealing but what are the risks and benefits of transitioning away from financial aid models to a more customized tuition model?  Learn how and why Gordon School in Providence\, RI made the shift to ‘Family Individualized Tuition’ several years ago and is benefitting from this model today. \nFacilitated by Gordon School’s Amanda Riegel\, Board Chair and Tom Cicatiello\, CFO \n*Please note that published meeting times are EST. \nRegister

SUMMARY:ISCA Webinar Series: Enduring in Spite of Calamity - Making Time for the Work that Matters!
DESCRIPTION:Numerous agencies estimate that as many as 15% of America’s private schools are operating on the fiscal edge of viability.  How can Boards free up as much as 40% of their meeting to focus on the issues that really matter?  It sounds like a pipe dream\, but research has proven that it’s possible.  In this webinar\, we will discuss the importance of creating an inclusive environment for make-or-break conversations\, what steps boards need to take\, and what actions will keep schools from a financial calamity. \nPresented by The Education Group:  Susan Lair\, Dennis Campbell\, Dave Davies\, Laura Fuller\, Bob Kirkpatrick\, Harry McKay\, Neil Mufson\, and Michael Murphy \nRegister
