A strong culture and a clearly articulated approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are essential, in both the short and long-term, if schools hope to achieve ambitious fundraising goals. As schools seek to advance their mission, a focus on DEI is not only the right thing to do, it is critical in motivating prospective donors and inspiring greater philanthropy. In that context, how can Boards ensure inclusive fundraising practices at their school? DEI, as it relates to fundraising, can start with establishing values and policies that shape how a school engages with its constituents. How, for example, are fundraising practices perceived by different constituent groups? Given the inherently exclusive nature of fundraising, how can the Board help to create both a culture of DEI, and fundraising programs that reflect those values in support of the school’s mission and priorities?

In this session, you will have the opportunity to ask hard questions, to learn from your peers, and to reflect on ways that you can lead your school that will result in more inclusive fundraising practices and, ultimately, greater philanthropic support.
