The number of women serving in the role of head of school has increased dramatically over the past decade, from 36% to 45% (NAIS). In this session,we wil discuss key components of the Boards’ role in creating a culture that supports and thrives under female leadership. Drawing on the collective experience of three current heads, all of whom are members of The Heads Network’s Board of Trustees, we will share strategies for mentoring women leaders into roles with increased responsibility, ensuring these women are represented in your search, and retaining them once they’ve become your Head of School. Topics to consider will include:
- How to address gender bias during a search and at all levels within your school community
- How both candidates and trustees should–and should not–act throughout a Head search process
- What heads need from the Board in terms of effective and empowering support
Presented by Jen Evers, Executive Director of The Heads Network along with Jennifer Ciccarelli, HOS, Marlborough School; Nola-rae Cronan, HOS, Carlthorp School; and Dan Glass, HOS, The Brandeis School of San Francisco
